Humanist Network News, or HNN, is a weekly Internet magazine produced by the American Humanist Association (AHA). A typical edition of HNN contains news, opinion, lifestyle pieces, cartoons and humor...just like a regular newspaper except each piece addresses the nonreligious philosophy of humanism. HNN articles are written by the staff of the AHA and a variety of guest writers. HNN is published every Wednesday.

It still amazes me how wonderful humanists can really be. When I posted the news of a recent family emergency on my Facebook simply to inform my family and friends in a quick way, I was overwhelmed with the kind words from humanists whom I've known for many years, and even some whom I'm only acquainted with through my work at the American Humanist Association. I recently read Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry's interview with the March/April 1991 issue of The Humanist, where he said, "My dad was much like many humanists I know: kind-hearted." And it's really true. Humanists are some of the most compassionate and kind-hearted people I know, and I can't help but feel proud to be associated with such a warm community.
As a humanist, what words of comfort do you share with family and friends going through rough times? Share them with us at hnn@americanhumanist.org or leave us a comment.
